Hot mess

Corolla Front Struts

Warning: Don’t attempt to change your own struts unless you know what you are doing. Supposedly, these springs could kill you. There’s a lot of energy stored in these compressed springs!

My tires are cupped, and I was told I needed new struts… Well, my Corolla has more than 90,000 miles on it. I guess that seems reasonable. And so, I decided to try changing them myself. (Especially since the shop told me it would cost $800 for them to change them with their “buy 3, get one free” special.)

When you push in the piston rod, it is supposed to come back out, like the new silver strut on the bottom. The old black one on the top is obviously worn out, as it doesn’t come back out at all.

Keep people and pets away from the strut springs and away from your jacked up car! Lucky should have been inside the house.

Collateral damage. I don’t think I torqued those bolts to the right specs… I broke and/or deformed some of my tools in the process of tightening them. This whole process gave me much more of a workout than I had anticipated!!! I’ll need to remember to ask the tire guys to double-check those knuckle bolts for me when I get new tires…

And here, I decided that my rear strut mounting bolts were too difficult to access… And I would pay to let someone else have fun with the rears… Plus, I was too lazy to buy replacements for the tools I broke and/or figure out what kind of tools I needed to access these bolts. (Though this would have been a great excuse to upgrade from Dad’s motley socket wrench set.)

So, I took my Corolla into a shop, and they told me it would cost $383 for labor to do the rears… And a second opinion is in order. In the meantime… Looking at this picture, maybe the rears wouldn’t be that hard to do, either… Just need the right tools… Or need to figure out a way to take that whole plastic panel off….

Selain wilayah, harga mobil juga ditentukan oleh kondisi fisik. Kalau kurang terawat, itu jelas bikin harga mobil jadi rendah. Nah, ada 7 cara yang bisa dilakukan jika Anda menginginkan harga mobkas tinggi.

1. Cat orisinil
Ini yang diperhatikan sebagian calon pembeli sebelum beralih ke mesin dan interior. Lalu, pelat bodi diteliti, pernah tabrakan atau tidak.

Apalagi jika terdapat bekas gores atau baret, maka ini perlu dihilangkan. Beberapa perlengkapan di bodi, seperti lis, logo, atau antena, sebaiknya masih utuh, termasuk komponen lampu.

2. Interior
Warna dasbor, panel pintu, dan jok belum pudar. Kondisinya pun tak ada yang retak atau bolong, khususnya dasbor dan panel pintu. Jika kabin kotor, bau tak sedap, dan lenyapnya beberapa komponen atau tidak berfungsi dengan baik, maka semua ini akan membuat harga mobil jatuh.

3. Pendukung kenyamanan
AC yang dingin menjadi salah satu faktor terpenting bagi calon pembeli. Lalu, kondisi busa dan pelapis jok masih terawat, begitu juga sabuk pengaman diharapkan terpasang dan berfungsi baik.

4. Kondisi mesin
Ada pembeli terkadang lebih mementingkan kondisi mesin bagus ketimbang bodi. Makanya, munculnya lelehan oli mesin atau air radiator, knalpot berasap tebal, dan beberapa komponen sudah tidak asli bisa menjatuhkan harga. Kalau punya bukti perawatan berkala dan perbaikian tertentu, maka hal itu akan menambah nilai mobkas.

5. Bunyi-bunyian
Hal ini bersumber dari mesin, kaki-kaki, dan interior. Bunyi-bunyian muncul karena ada dua komponen saling bergesek atau sudah kering lantaran kurang gemuk.

6. Perlengkapan tambahan
Penambahan aksesori dapat menaikkan harga jual, seperti sistem audio yang sudah up-grade, pakai pelek lebar, penggantian shift knob, setir balap, dan jok semi-bucket racing.

Di sisi lain, ada yang beranggapan, justru penambahan aksesori tidak sesuai selera pembeli sehingga ada biaya tambahan untuk mengembalikan kondisi mobil ke standar. Jika begitu, calon pembeli punya peluang untuk menekan harga. (Ary Darmajati) sumber : kompas.com

Bike vs Car

I remembered how much I enjoy DC drives about a week and a half ago. Had a little bike accident due to a driver hitting me from behind, and then not even stopping. What kind of person seriously does that. Karma is all I have to say.

After my roommate Peter attempted to take me to the ER the following day and got himself hurt in the process (long board to pot hole to head cut open needing stitches) my lovely 6 hours spent getting xrays and cat scans were spent with some good friends. The aftermath were some beautiful battle wounds, lovely bruises, bit of a fucked up elbow, and my ninth concussion in four years, (still no signs of brain damage according to the doctors).

Just continuing to remember why I miss Oregon on a daily basis.

somewhat strange....

well, it’s been a bit of a strange day out today i must say, i was walking up the road when i was walking past this house that had like 3 or 4 motorcycle helmets on the front lawn……….but no bikes! not one in sight, there wasnt even so much as a bike around the corner, kinda of strange, and if things didnt get stranger, i was also walking up the road somewhere near town, and all the people that were driving by, were staring at me!!! wtf!!!   and to top it off, i was waiting right at the crossing section near the round-about, when 2 cars come along and starting circling around about 4 or more times beeping their horns like nuts then taking off….i must say, strangest day ive ever had so far, but im still glad i got to see a good mate of mine.

Aside from that, was hot outside today, i think ive sunburnt my neck but ohh well, it happends.
